Insurance Claims

At ABC Pros we work with all major homeowners insurance providers. We work quickly and diligently to provide you with an accurate assessment of the damage along with an official estimate to have it repaired.

We have performed insurance related repair work for years. The most important factor to keep in mind with insurance claims is to make sure you’re covered first. This is ultimately your responsibility. It’s as easy as calling your agent, (or if it’s an emergency out of normal business hours, they will have an emergency claim line you can call) and telling them exactly what’s going on and if you’re covered. Once you find out you’re covered we can help you every step of the way. For more information about the insurance claim process and how it works, read the information below, or contact us today to help take care of you during your insurance claim.

Address Any Immediate Needs

If an unfortunate disaster has struck, or you have some damage putting your home at risk for even more damage in the near future, first thing again: please call your insurance agent (or their emergency claim line if it’s outside your agents normal business hours). If you’re covered they will usually recommend you call a qualified contractor immediately to minimize the damage. They may even recommend a couple contractors they’ve worked with in the past BUT you DO NOT have to pick their contractors to do the repairs.

This short term solution helps minimize the damage, helps keep the repair from becoming an even bigger project, and will help keep your home safe while the insurance process is running it’s course. Also important to keep in mind, the contractor you initially call doesn’t have be the one that you have perform the actual repairs, and you are under no obligation to use them in the future.

Contact the contractors you want to get quotes from

This step is important as it will help you compare the benefits and warranties of specific contractors. We always warn customers, NOT ALL CONTRACTORS ARE CREATED EQUAL. Be sure to pick a contractor that you can trust and be confident in their work. PLEASE NOTE: this is not about saving money, as the difference in cost won’t change your deductible at all. You may be saving your insurance company money in the short term by going with the cheaper contractor, but it usually won’t save you a dime in the long run. It may even cost you money if it’s not done right. Pick someone you can trust, not someone who’s cheapest.

PLEASE NOTE: Steer clear of any company that promises to reduce or waive your deductible, or offers you anything to offset these charges. This is highly illegal, and can get both of you in serious trouble with the insurance company.

The contractor will usually send the quote to you and the insurance company

Whichever contractor you choose will send their quote and details to you and the insurance company to help expedite the process. If something doesn’t sound right, or if there are red flags, the insurance company will contact you to discuss how to move forward.

Insurance company sends their “adjuster” to your home for an estimate

This step is critical, in keeping both the contractors and the homeowners honest. They will evaluate the scope of work, the proposed budget and associated costs, and likely check to make sure the contractor was accurate with their estimate of the work needing to be performed. Another critical reason to pick a contractor that you trust, as this step can get both you and the contractor in a bad spot.

Insurance Company Authorizes Repairs

Once satisfied with the contractor’s quote, the insurance company will authorize repairs. You will owe your deductible to the contractor, but the difference will be paid by the insurance company, leaving them to deal with the contractor on your behalf.

Contractor Performs Repairs

The most important step of all, and you should be responsible for keeping track of the work performed and when it is completed to keep the contractor honest. Make sure to do a visible inspection with the contract before AND after the repairs are made, to make sure that every one of your needs was performed and that the work appears to be in order.

If you have any questions about this process, or would like us to provide a quote for your project, please contact us directly at (888) 604-PROS. We will be happy to send one of our experts to your home for a free visual inspection of the damage at no obligation to you!
